Why Jinwu Shadow Monarch before Kaniko?

Both characters start at 100 HP at 11:57. Shadow Monarch leads 67–26 at 12:40 and 59–6 at 12:45. At 12:48 its player gets the round-winner animation; the next arena vote shows Kaniko’s player down one heart. This is one observed round won, not just a favorable screenshot.

That result makes Shadow Monarch our first character to try from this pair. Kaniko’s long contact attack is still worth comparing against other opponents. Traits, aim and repeated trials were not controlled, so this does not establish a universal counter or a win rate.

A health lead is not the same as a win

Lelush leads the ball matching Sabaro’s recorded portrait 54–27 at 15:47 on the numbered-tile arena. Nine seconds later, the opposing player gets the winner animation. Judging only the earlier frame would give the wrong result.

Use the ending, not the biggest lead, when comparing picks. This sequence does not isolate whether the reversal came from an ability, the arena or another interaction. It is not enough to rank Sabaro above every Secret character.

What these tiers mean

These are editorial recommendations from recorded play, not controlled tests or developer rankings. The evidence predates the reported Update 1.5.1 changes. There is no S-tier entry, full-roster order or verified current-meta claim in this version.

LabelHow to use it
A · First to tryA preliminary recommendation supported by a visible duel example. It is not an S-tier claim for the entire game.
B · Matchup trialA named alternative with a visible attack pattern and a reason to compare it. It may work better in other conditions.
UnrankedWe have a card, draw or banner record, but too little comparable combat evidence. Not a bottom tier.

Best team for 2v2: what can you use now?

There is no tested best pair here yet. The 1v1 example above cannot establish a 2v2 winner. Start with two characters whose attacks you can identify, then record both teammates, both opponents and the arena.

Try changing one teammate at a time while keeping the arena and traits as similar as possible. A damage-focused trait and a defensive trait are useful starting experiments, not a proven team synergy.

Should you spend Gems on an early pick?

Only if the current pool actually contains the form you want and it fits your budget. Godly Jinwu and Void Jinwu Shadow Monarch are separate records. The October 11 Limited banner lists Shadow Monarch at 0.24%; a Mythic+ pity does not guarantee it.

A recommendation to try a character you already own is not a recommendation to chase it with every Gem. Check the acquisition guide and save a reserve first.

Common questions

Who is the best ball in Anime Ball Duels?

From the one recorded 1v1 comparison reviewed here, Jinwu Shadow Monarch is our first pick to try over Kaniko. That limited evidence cannot establish the strongest character across every map, mode and current update.

Why are most characters unranked?

A readable name, rarity or ability label is not enough to rank combat strength. We keep those characters in the database and leave them unranked until there is useful matchup evidence.

Is this an Update 1.5.1 tier list?

No. The initial recommendations use footage published October 11. We have not verified controlled Update 1.5.1 matchups or ranked Nurato Six Paths.
